I know the Papua New Guinea
artist had in mind
an equally
pre-historic
ostrich head

And while I am sure
he and the ostrich
were pleased with the likeness …

To me –
post-pre-historic poet –
this carving is nothing if not
a catcher’s mitt
snagging the dramatic strike three
of the final out
of the equally historic pre-historic
final game of the
Papua New Guinea World Series
between The West Sepik Surfers 9
and
The Huli Wigmen 8!
