Joan of Arc

August 25, 2011

Joan of Arc

Not in arms,

not on a pyre

not conversing with saints –

in fact her back is towards them –

and not in battle

No, Bastien-Lepage’s Jeanne d’Arc

is a plain dressed civilian

alone

in her garden

diaphanous saints only WE can see don’t count

deep in her divine thoughts

That’s the achievement of 89.21.1
